Historicon 2015 Pictures Part One

Hi Kids,  Once again I've made the pilgrimage to the Holiest of Holies, Historicon!  And once again had a bucket o fun!  There were about 500 games put on at Fredericksburg, VA, so I'd like to recommend that everyone make the trip next year.  It'll still be there in 2016, but after that who knows?  I personally think the backlash from the Long Island etc gamers will move it to someplace like Iceland just to spite us lads from south of the Mason-Dixon line, but I might be wrong....

In the meantime, here are some pictures I took of all the action.

Here we have some shots of a D-Day game in 15mm.

Not sure I'd be leading the charge with M7 Priests, but you never know.  It's a pretty big gun after all!  Maybe those Huns are just being sneaky.  Ya gotta watch 'em every minute!

The new Big naval Star Wars game was out in force.  That new rebel Assault Frigate looks way cool!  I've played the game a couple times, and it looks like a winner.
World Famous Bruce from RDU has some up with a Coral Sea game that looks groovy!  Hope you don't have to move each cloud individually.

My Thursday game was Check Your Six Jet Age, as the F-8 Gunfighters jumped our NV MiG-21's.  Three MiG's were shot down and only one F-8, but since I'm the one MiG pilot who shot down an enemy plane and survived too, I declared it an intellectual victory!

Afterburners!  Feel the need for speed!
Sweet looking terrain!  And all the bulk of 25mm, the One True Scale!
 Beautiful jungle rugged terrain!
25mm game of Joe Hack ancients, about 6 x 25 feet table!  You boys ain't getting to the pub before last call!
There was a large presence of zombies this year.  There goes the (25mm) neighborhood!
Dropzone Commander was evident as well.  This is always a sweet looking setup!  I finally weakened and bought the rulebook.  It's just to awesome to avoid.
The Miniature Building Authority had another excellent set up, this table was in use for assorted scenarios throughout the con.   I played in the Desert Breeze scenario.
Fire and Fury in 25mm.  Get the lead out!
 Looks like Geohex terrain.  Nifty!
Groovy map for this 1/285 WW2 Aviation game!

It's the Siege of Swein Forkbeard's Castle in 15mm!
Remember those old Star Blazers cartoons?  Give the Gamalons what's coming to them while belting out the themesong to the show!  "Ourrrrrr Starrrrrrrrr Blazerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrs!"
I always dug the Earth Defense Force ships!  Just too sexy!
A really big shoot-em-up with the Star Wars lads!  Why is the Assault Frigate guaranteed sexy?  Because John hates the damn thing!  What more do you need to know?
25mm Nappies using Field of Battle!  One of the biggest games of the con!

"Wings of Glory" for WW1 Aviation!  Beautiful stuff!
"Sail and Steam" navies duke it out!
Divine intervention as the hands just keep coming!
"Sword Beach", one of the Big setups this year.  D-Day in 20mm!

Oh yeah, these guys mean business!
The Tyhoon is just a sweet plane!  If one is good, two is better!
25mm The Sword and The Flame for Roy's Hererro German Southwest Africa game!
"Iron & Fire" for more Naval action!
"Luftwaffe 1946" as the huge strategic bombers come in for a run over the target!
A shot of the Combat Results Table from the Joe Hack ancients game.  It's not always about handfuls of D6!  Reminds me of WRG 5th!  Yeah baby!

Stay tuned for more pictures in a couple days!

7th Anniversary for My Little World of Dementia

26 September has came around again for the seventh anniversary of My Little World. I haven't been as active on the blog this year mostly due to a case of "real life" interfering. I have worked on a bunch of models and played many games. Once I get some things sorted out I can get back to the blog. A high note is that the blog is just sort of 200,000 page views. I think we should be able to break that number by the end of the year. Thanks for reading.

My Little World Of Dementia 2013 year in review.

Once again a New Year has arrived, time to take a look back at last year.

First, My Little World has passed the 100,000 page view mark in 2013. The plan was to break the 100k page view mark by December but it was broken in October. My Little World also reached 100 followers and broke the 10,000 page views in October. Allot of thanks goes out to Chuckaroobob and his efforts to keep the blog full of original content. He also has the honor of the most viewed post of the year with his Winston-Salem Airshow 2013 part one. It was far and away the most viewed post of the year and is the third most viewed post since I started keeping track back in 2007. We had 176 posts for the 2013 up 29 posts from 2012's 147. 2013 is also the sixth year for MLWoD. I hope to keep it going for many more.

My gaming for the year mostly consisted of Warhammer 40k. I played more 40k than anything else. Participating in a 40k league and playing in a tournament at Gaming Underground made this a year of 40k. Next most played game is Warhammer Fantasy battle. I participated in a informal map campaign early in the year with my Ogre Kingdom army and picked a couple more games late in the year with my Beastmen army. Flames of War comes in next with several games mostly with the Catawba gamers at Parker Banner Kent and Wayne in Cornelius. Last would be the X-Wing miniature game. Since the young master was gifted several ships at Christmas this year I foresee more X-Wing play on the blog.

I finished painting only 42 miniatures for the year. The majority were models for my Fantasy Battle Vampire Counts army, including some ghouls I finished for the Zomtober painting challenge. Although I didn't complete painting on many models I worked on many projects. Starting with the warhammer Fantasy armies I worked on Ghouls, Skeletons, a Blood Dragon Vampire, Terrorgheist, Grave Guard and Skeleton archers for the Vampire counts. I worked on a variety of models for my Ogre Kingdoms including some Empire Flagellants in stocks and a Celtos Chariot to use for the Ogre baggage train.  I picked up some oop Citadel Beastmen and have lately started back on some chariots and Gors for the Beastmen Fantasy army. I built an oop Orc Wyvren and an oop High Elf Dragon to use as Heldrakes for my 40k Chaos marines and started building a chassis for my oop Skaven Warp Lightning cannon. For warhammer 40k I worked on the Plague Marines, Iron Warriors, World Eaters, Eldar and Imperial Guard. I picked up a bunch of Tau Kroot but they a slated to be used as Parrotmen from Venus in some future Victorian Science Fiction gaming. I worked on my Tilean Mordhein warband but didn't end up playing any games. Similarly I worked on some Warmachine Cygnar Warjacks but again didn't end up playing any Warmachine. I finally finished assembling the Tin Man Horde (not Tharks) Warriors and now just need to paint them. I have the quantum Gothic Communication Dish almost finished maybe this year it will see the table. I am still working on a barbarian band for Get The Girl, Kill The baddies. Last we come to the various Historical projects. I working on adding more infantry to my 15mm early war soviets for Flames of War. I am assembling Soviets in 28mm to fight early war games in Disposable Heroes. I have to finish the Cretan archers I made from Wargames factory Numidians as a start for my Achaemenid Persian ancients army and finally to get the 1/900 scale Napoleonic ship finished for some Heart of Oak naval action.

What to expect in the New Year. Who Knows? At the moment I am working on my Fantasy Beastmen to possibly play in the Fantasy league at Gaming Underground. Another goal is to field a 10,000 point Vampire count army for 8th edition. I have 10k points but not the 2500 points of core models. Once I finish building the latest Skeleton acquisitions I will be very close to the 2500 point mark. I was going to go the no proxy route but if I do proxy in my chaos war hounds for dire wolves I may already have enough models to field the 10k. Will I win,  who knows but it is going to be neat to have 10k of Vampire on the table. Last is the 28mm Early war Soviets. I have all the models for a basic Soviet platoon I just need to finish building them and possibly add a couple Maxim machine guns to round the force out for some Disposable Heroes action.

If you are still reading, then sorry for the wall of text. More interesting post coming soon and thanks for looking.

2013 Chuckster in review

Hi Kids,
Well, its a whole new honkin' year, let's see about the ole lead mountain progress report.  A couple years ago I took the TMP "Paint-More-Than-You-Buy"  Pledge  to try to get some kinda control over just how much lead I was accumulating, and keeping track of it has been kinda fun.  Some years I've painted over 1000 figs, but I usually end up buying more than I paint.  This year I got so disgusted with the state of the Basement of Heaped Miniatures that I decided to sell off some of the bottom shelf projects.  This year I took a lot of stuff to the HMGS flea markets and sold some other stuff on ebay, and I would've been in the black except for losing control the last day of Fall In, where I decided to go ahead and pick up enough 25mm Russians to do some Barbarosa action.  And deciding I would never ever get around to painting my 25mm Carthagians and 15mm FOW Italians made a huge difference.

Anyway, my totals for the year:

Painted: 206
Bought: 254
Sold: 1183

Total change in Lead Mountain: -1135

This is the largest reduction ever, so I actually did great for the year!

Just to show you what I'm up against, here's a picture of my permanently setup painting area in one corner of the Basement.  Keen observers will note there is actually no horizontal surface on which to paint.  I have taken to using those black jewelry display boxes to handle the figs as they go through the process, making my life just a tiny bit easier, as you can keep the relevant colors on the tray also. And I highly recommend a 500watt halogen lamp.  Damn thing'll keep you warm, too!

My Little World passes 100,000 Page views

My plan for the year was to generate enough content to push My Little World of Dementia to over 100,000 page views and it has hit the mark two months early.

We hit 100,000 page views in the beginning of October and passed another milestone, gaining 100 followers.

Last, we hit the most page views in a month breaking 10,000 with time left in the month. I would like to thank everybody that takes the time to look and a special thanks to Chuckaroobob for his contributions.

My Little World of Dementia Sixth Anniversary

26 September has come again and My Little World of Dementia has continued for a sixth year. When I first started posting here I aimed for one post a week and managed that easily enough. I shanghaied Chuckaroobob to the blog back in 2009 and now the blog has reached 98,000 page views and on track to break 100,000 page views by the end of October. A special thanks to Chuckaroobob who has really stepped up and helped generate the extra content.

A flashback to Chuckaroobobs Second post on the blog , The first pictures of Chestnut Skunk and some Kyromek Talos models. Here is his first post about the Mysterious stranger but the second one is much sexier, especially the photos.

Thanks for taking the time to read My Little World of Dementia.

My Little World of Dementia 2012 Year in Review

Another year has passed and My Little World of Dementia is still chugging along. 2012 is the fifth anniversary for the blog and we also broke the 50,000 page views ceiling. We also received two Liebster fan awards and picked up new followers to take the current total to 66. The blog is also starting to get a bit more exposure. It started 2012 with 2426 page views in the month of January and ended with December 2012 at 12 shy of 5000 views and is also the month with the most page views in the blogs history. Thanks to Chuckaroobob, we have been able to boost the number of posts from 84 in 2011 to 147 in 2012.

I had a good year of gaming, with Warhammer 40k being the most played game of the year. The most fun game was probably the last game of Warhammer Fantasy Battle Third Edition I played against Chuckaroobob and he won.

The first goal from last year was to play more games and thanks to the Warhammer 40k League at Gaming Underground I succeeded with flying colors.

Painting wise I finished one hundred and forty five figures in 2012, a step up from the one hundred and eight in 2011. So another success from last years review.

The last goal was to finish up some long wip painting projects and I think I did reasonably well. The best of which is this Celtos Danu Priestess that has been setting in a box half finished for years. The next project to benefit from the goal was my Vampire Counts army with a couple new units added and many wip models finished.

Now for the next year I think the same goals are in order, game more, finish painting more figure than last year and finish some more too long wip projects that have been building up for years.

Liebster #2 , another award for My Little World

After I sent out my first round of Liebster awards the good chap at Colonel O'Truth's Miniatures has sent me another one. I had a hard time picking the first five blogs to send a Liebster too. I follow right at three hundred blogs. It appears that three hundred is the max amount of blogs that Google will let you follow, so I recently went back and dropped several blogs that haven't had any activity in a more than a year. Now I have a little leeway to follow more active blogs.

My first five choices I went with blogs I liked, that had less than 50 followers. The Liebster says less than 200 but I thought these blogs could use a bit more exposure.

This was copy and pasted from Colonel O'Truths's Miniature Issues

1. Copy and paste the award on your blog linking it to the blogger who has given it to you.

2. Pass the award to your top 5 favourite blogs with fewer than 200 followers by leaving a comment on one of their posts to notify them that they have won the award and listing them on your own blog.

3. Sit back and bask in that warm fuzzy feeling that comes with knowing that you have just made someone's day!

3. Sit back and bask in the warm fuzzy feeling that comes with knowing you have made someone's day!

4. There is no obligation to pass this onto someone else but its nice if you take the time to do so.

50,000 Page Views for My little World of Dementia

It has been getting close but it finally hit, 50,000 page views! It tripped over around 4pm Eastern on 11Nov12.

I probably have a few hundred more than that. I started My Little World of Dementia in September 2007 but didn't start tracking the page views until June 2008. Almost ten months of page views that we will never know about.  The most viewed month was last October with 4223 page views. The page views last month showing above, actually includes some views from this month so it is a little off. From June 2008 to May 2010 the blog usually ran between 600 and 800 views a month but in June 2010 the blog had 3077 views and I picked up a bunch of followers. The page count dropped back in July 2010 to 1250 page views but has been going up almost every month since then.

The most viewed post on the blog, is my article about some lasgun conversions I did back in June 2010, you can see it here.
Lasgun Conversions

It has been a good five years so far and I hope to keep the blog going for another five years or more.

My Little World Fifth Anniversary

Well 26 September has come and gone again for the fifth time. According to the blog stats, it has had 3200 page views this month.  This is the most page views the blog has received ,in a single month, since I started keeping track back in 2008. So far I have had a little over 44000 page views and if I keep the posts going I think I can break 50k by the beginning of next year.

ChuckarooBob is Famous From Historicon!!

It seems that our ChuckarooBob has drawn more attention at Historicon this year and is now more Famous than before.

Read It Here,  It seems that the Fredericksburg Free-Lance Star found his personal charisma irresistible and quoted him extensively in their coverage of Historicon 2012.

Quantum Gothic Communication Dish Inbound!

Quantum Gothic Communication Dish

It seems that joining groups and following blogs has paid off again. Alec Peters over on Apocalypse 40k annouced the winner of a Quantun Gothic Communications Dish and it was yours truely. I found out from Chris over at Sippin' On Paint Water that I had won.

I have sent the message to Alec to claim the prize and wait for his response.

Camerone Day

Captain Danjou's Hand
Every year on April 30th the French Foreign Legion celebrates Camerone Day. This celebrates an engagement between 62 soldiers and 3 officers of the the Legion and over 2000 Mexican soldiers at the Hacienda Cameron in Veracruz, Mexico on 30 April 1863. The Mexican forces surrounded the Legionaires and asked for their surrender. Their Commander Capt. Danjou refused and then he and the men swore an oath to fight to the death.
The battle raged, but the legionaires refused to surrender. As the evening approached , out of ammunition, only five legionaries and the last officer, Lt. Maudet, survived. These last men refused to surrender, so they fixed bayonets and charged out at the Mexican soldiers. Most of the Legionaires were shot down but the Mexican commander stopped his men from killing the last two. They still refused to surrender, they demanded the Mexican soldiers allow them safe passage home, to keep their arms and to escort the body of Captain Danjou. To that the Mexican commander commented "What can I refuse to such men? No, these are not, men they are devils!", and out of respect, agreed to their terms.
The most sacred relic of the French Foreign Legion is the wooden prosthetic hand of Captain Danjou. On April 30th the hand is taken out  for display and presented in special ceremonies.
