back in 2009 I played in a Mordheim League organized through the GameOnGw yahoo group. I went with something different and chose to play a Tilean Warband from the Lustria campaign setting in The Town Cryer. I play a bunch of games but the league ended up winding down. Recently some of the local gamers have been talking Mordhiem again and putting some Warbands together, so I searched in the Closet of Doom and brought the Tileans back into the light.
Captain Silvio. He started out armed with a rapier but after almost getting filled in the first few games He decided to put the rapier in storage and up armor.
He is still a work in progress like the rest of the band but I really like the model. He is made from collection of bits, empire soldier, militia and knight. The shield is one of the old spearman shields that I saned the lion head off of.
The unlucky youngblood who lost his hand. He was originally armed with a two handed hammer but once his hand was cut off, the hammer went into storage. He managed to get the latest technological advance and had a hook put on the stump. He is made from the empire militia bits and the hook is off of chaos vehicle spikey bit sprue.
The Tilean crossbowmen. The first model is made from the empire militia bits with a little greenstuff to make the hat more similar to the other tilean crossbowmen. The model in the middle is a metal Tilean crossbow 6 and the far right is a metal Tilean crossbowman 1 from 1993. I originally used the two metal models in my Reiklander warband but stripped the paint and repainted them to match the Tilean warband colors.
A planned expansion to the warband was adding more Tilean swordsmen. They are all built with various empire plastic bits.
The two Tilean heroes. I skimped on their equipment and was waiting till I picked up some more advances before fitting them out with better equipment. I stuck to the hammer and dagger combo that for both.
"The Lads Got Talent" Tilean crossbowman. I lucked up and rolled "the lads got Talent!" for my group of crossbow men and built this model to represent him. He is made from the majority of empire militia parts and a bit of greenstuff to make the hat more Tilean.
The good ole wharf scum. They started as a henchman band for my Marienburger warband but were in the process of being repainted into the Tilean colors. I had built them quickly and left most of the mold lines on the models so I am cleaning them off before a prime and repaint. The bits are oop empire soldier and empire militia. The swords are actually from the long oop skeletons. I wanted scimitars too add a bit more exotic style to the Marienburgers and they fit right in with the Tileans too.
Bad picture but the other young blood for the warband. He is an Alchemist from the wizards box put out for Warhammer Quest/ talisman. My plan was to give him a magic tome if I could ever find one. He is modeled with a mace hanging from his belt on the back and is just a cool model.
The Tilean warband allows you a couple tilean Duelists and I couldn't resist. Both models are from the oop Vespero's Vendetta Dogs of War unit. They use two weapons and parry with their cloak, whats not to like.
One of my favorite models. It is the command model from the oop empire swordsman unit. It is made from the plastic torso and legs of an empire soldier with the metal arm and head bits, He has been in my Empire army for a long time but I wanted him better painted so I decided to use him as a upgraded hero model.
One thing missing from the band is Pikes. The league organizer okayed the Tilean warband but said the pikes were a bit over the top, so no pikes. Conveniently, I already have a unit of pike men, I converted from Empire spear men to use in my Dogs of War army back in the day. So if I want to add a group of pike men to the Tilean warband all I need to do is pull some from that unit and onto the table.

GameOnGw Games Day
On 14Nov09 I attended the GameOnGw Gamesday at The Cage gaming space in High Point, NC. I took my Mordheim Tilean war band and some of my Pulp figures to possibly use in ChuckarooBob's planned Great War game. I packed everything the night before and was halfway to the Cage when I realized I had left my camera so sorry no pictures.
I chatted with the lads until Chuckaroo showed. I got the Italian paratrooper light machine gunners and another Italian paratrooper heavy machine gunners Chuckarro had picked up for me at Fall In. We set up and then played a rousing game of Great War ran by him. It was early war with the Brits verses the Turks. It was a meeting engagement were but the Brit made it to cover and stayed so us Turks had to root them out. I controlled a Turkish company and 2 machine guns. I moved up, set the machine guns and manage to decrew the only British Field gun but then had a platoon of Turks decimated by British grenadiers. My commander charged in to slay the Grenadiers and killed several before the British command charged in and killed him. The Grenadiers went on to charge my two machine guns while the British command watched them go. The last grenadier destroyed one of the machine guns but died in his attempt. British cavalry arrived behind the turkish positions but were beaten off in a vicious close combat. This I left the Turks with a Marginal victory. Chuckaroo played another Great War game but I broke out the Mordheim figures for a couple games.
My first game was against Mike and his Dwarf band. I helped him get his band together and then we played an ambush scenario were by band was spread out all over the table and some off table while Mikes's dwarfs showed up on a random table edge. They showed on an edge near one of my warriors and were in combat by the second turn. Mike proceeded to rapidly put three of my models out of action and I had to start taking rout tests. the dwarfs are just tough as nails and I had to get lucky to put one down. What followed was about an hour of hard core Mordheim, with me making more than sixteen rout tests before I finally failed and bolted.
The next game was a four player game using the pool Scenario. There was a pool with a pile of wyrdstone shards in it in the middle of the table. The goal is to search the pool get the shards and get back off of the table. I took the honor less dog approach and jumped the closet war band, which was Shaun W's Reiklanders, while my heroes made a dash for the pool and searched for shards. I put several of Shaun's guys down and he ended up routing off the table. I found three of the possible six shards and decided that was good enough and left the table so the last two players could fight over what was left.
I had a great time at the games day and look forward to the next one.

Tilean Warband Refitted
I built a couple more models for my Tilean Warband in the GameOnGw Mordheim League. First is my new and improved Captain. He was originally armed with a rapier but after three game of not hitting a lick on anything. The first game had him put out of action by a zombie, second game he was almost knocked out by an ungor and third game it was a combination of a zombie and a ghoul that had him down but not out of action. He did get an advance which gave him a four toughness but needed a change of equipment. The warband had acquired a set of light armor from a treasure hunt scenario so I picked up a helmet, shield and sword to go with it. The rapier was put in storage for when the Captain can go back to style instead of utility. Below is the new captain. I still have to set the arms in their final position, add a bit more green stuff to the underarm gaps and once painted glue on the shield.
Here is the new young blood with his shiny hook hand to replace to one he lost in the last game. His two handed hammer has gone into storage and he has been reequipped with a sword from the warband stores.
The last picture is of the dark man all painted up. He is a nemesis for Prospector Bob in the ongoing Pulp campaign. I am still working on a back story and a proper name. I am contemplating calling him "Skull". The idea comes from a sergeant I knew during my military service. Everybody called the sergeant "Skull". He was a big guy and a hard core weightlifter who had won several of the bodybuilding competition on base. He also had to get all his uniforms tailored because his arm wouldn't fit through the sleeves of the issue uniforms. My curiosity got the better of me eventually and I asked "Why does everybody call him Skull?", the answer was "Because he wants to be called Skull."

Mordheim At the Cage
Well the League has started and I went to the Cage today for a few games of Mordheim. The first game for my Tilean warband was a skirmish against Tony's Undead. It ended as a loss for me after failing a rout test. I wouldn't call them Highlights but my Captain being taken out of action by a zombie before swinging one blow, another champion being knocked out of action and a warrior being killed. The champ ended up missing the next game. The next was against Shaun and a loaner beastman warband. I fared a little better and won this game. A highlight was the crossbow shot that knocked out the beastman leader and then the rest of of the band routing off of the board. The last game was a rematch against Tony's Undead. Another loss for me after a voluntary rout to save several of my knocked down or stunned heros before they took out of action. I managed to get some extra wyrdstone but one of my youngbloods had his arm amputated.
I had a lot of fun and can't wait for the next mordheim day. So off to the work table to build a new youngblood model with a hook for a hand.

On the Work Table
I am planning on playing in the Mordheim league being organized by Tony through the GameonGw club. Saturday is the first day of the league and I am trying to make it to the Cage to get in some games. I searched through the war bands and finally decided to use the Tilean war band in the Lustria Campaign from the Town Cryer 22.
Here are some prototype Heroes. Two champs with mace and dagger, A young blood with a two handed hammer, a the young blood astrologer with a mace and dagger and the captain with a rapier and a dagger. They are from Remassen so all the heroes will get a leadership boost. The astrologer doesn't have any special rules, he is just a youngblood but I like the figure and he does have a mace hanging from his belt.
Here are the henchmen. Two duelists with sword and dagger, two warriors with mace and dagger, and three marksmen with crossbows. This will give me 12 models in my starting war band. I went equipment lite to pad the roster and hope the three marksmen can give enough cover fire.
Here are some hirelings I am planning to paint up and maybe use during the league. A pit fighter, the wizard Nicodemus, Arabian Merchant, Priest of Morr, Halfling scout, and Vampire Assassin. The Priest of Morr isn't actually a hireling he is a replacement hero but to add him I will need to drop a champion and probably a henchman to cover his cost. The flip side is he is a spell caster of a sort. I have a few days till I have to make my final decisions.
Here are a couple blasts from the past, two Rogue Trader Keeper of Secrets that I have had since the beginning of my hobby experience. They were badly assembled, poorly painted and needed rebasing onto larger bases, so into the Simple Green. Paint striped, reassembled with a good bit of green stuff and rebased onto 50mm bases in all their greater daemon glory. Some would say they are a little small compared to the newer greater daemons but I think as them as the little Keeper of Secrets that what it more.
Here are another two blasts from the past an Eldar skimmer hawk in the foreground and an eldar skimmer scorpion on the stand, both from Epicast. I just recently traded with a buddy of mine to get them and aim to use them in the next big apocalypse game put on by Matt P. The Scorpion I plan to play as a fire prism tank and the Hawk as a fast skimmer with no weapons, 10 armor all around and access to the eldar vehicle upgrades.
