back in 2009 I played in a Mordheim League organized through the GameOnGw yahoo group. I went with something different and chose to play a Tilean Warband from the Lustria campaign setting in The Town Cryer. I play a bunch of games but the league ended up winding down. Recently some of the local gamers have been talking Mordhiem again and putting some Warbands together, so I searched in the Closet of Doom and brought the Tileans back into the light.
Captain Silvio. He started out armed with a rapier but after almost getting filled in the first few games He decided to put the rapier in storage and up armor.
He is still a work in progress like the rest of the band but I really like the model. He is made from collection of bits, empire soldier, militia and knight. The shield is one of the old spearman shields that I saned the lion head off of.
The unlucky youngblood who lost his hand. He was originally armed with a two handed hammer but once his hand was cut off, the hammer went into storage. He managed to get the latest technological advance and had a hook put on the stump. He is made from the empire militia bits and the hook is off of chaos vehicle spikey bit sprue.
The Tilean crossbowmen. The first model is made from the empire militia bits with a little greenstuff to make the hat more similar to the other tilean crossbowmen. The model in the middle is a metal Tilean crossbow 6 and the far right is a metal Tilean crossbowman 1 from 1993. I originally used the two metal models in my Reiklander warband but stripped the paint and repainted them to match the Tilean warband colors.
A planned expansion to the warband was adding more Tilean swordsmen. They are all built with various empire plastic bits.
The two Tilean heroes. I skimped on their equipment and was waiting till I picked up some more advances before fitting them out with better equipment. I stuck to the hammer and dagger combo that for both.
"The Lads Got Talent" Tilean crossbowman. I lucked up and rolled "the lads got Talent!" for my group of crossbow men and built this model to represent him. He is made from the majority of empire militia parts and a bit of greenstuff to make the hat more Tilean.
The good ole wharf scum. They started as a henchman band for my Marienburger warband but were in the process of being repainted into the Tilean colors. I had built them quickly and left most of the mold lines on the models so I am cleaning them off before a prime and repaint. The bits are oop empire soldier and empire militia. The swords are actually from the long oop skeletons. I wanted scimitars too add a bit more exotic style to the Marienburgers and they fit right in with the Tileans too.
Bad picture but the other young blood for the warband. He is an Alchemist from the wizards box put out for Warhammer Quest/ talisman. My plan was to give him a magic tome if I could ever find one. He is modeled with a mace hanging from his belt on the back and is just a cool model.
The Tilean warband allows you a couple tilean Duelists and I couldn't resist. Both models are from the oop Vespero's Vendetta Dogs of War unit. They use two weapons and parry with their cloak, whats not to like.
One of my favorite models. It is the command model from the oop empire swordsman unit. It is made from the plastic torso and legs of an empire soldier with the metal arm and head bits, He has been in my Empire army for a long time but I wanted him better painted so I decided to use him as a upgraded hero model.
One thing missing from the band is Pikes. The league organizer okayed the Tilean warband but said the pikes were a bit over the top, so no pikes. Conveniently, I already have a unit of pike men, I converted from Empire spear men to use in my Dogs of War army back in the day. So if I want to add a group of pike men to the Tilean warband all I need to do is pull some from that unit and onto the table.

Flames of War Early War Soviet Purge Part 2
The battle continues, Early War Strelkovy verses Strelkovy in a purge of the traitors.
We played this game on 25 May 13 at PBKW during the Charlotte Flames of War game day. We we left my Strelkovy had just won an assault against Patrick's Strelkovy but thing were about to change.
Patrick's second Strelkovy company arrives from reserves.
My 45mm at guns dig in a with for them to get in range.
The light tanks gun down many of my Strelkovy. The Command Commissar leaves the unit to go find the second wave, the closing tanks had nothing to do with that decision.
Patrick's Strelkovy brave the guns and assault them from the side, denying a defensive fire.
Patrick wins the assault and my guns flee the field.
Patrick's fire whittles down my Strelkovy to the commissar and one rifle stand. They role morale and fail.
The Commissar kills the last rifle stand and rerolls. He succeeds and stands alone on the objective.
Then the tanks move in and the commissar is cut down, a Hero of the Revolution.
The commissar's death let me make a second wave roll, and I succeed. The second wave comes on.
With Patrick camped on the objective, I bring the wave on as close as possible but can't do enough damage to move them off the objective.
Win for Patrick.
It was a great game and I feel that this army played much better than my first early war army did. I had decided not to field any tanks because of the sabotage rule for the early war Soviet armor but Patrick's tanks really impressed me. After having to run my Strelkovy across the board three turns to just get into range, I think some mobility is needed. I have picked up some more infantry and want to get some 45mm at guns so I will not have to proxy them next time.
Thanks for looking, keep an eye out for more flames of war battle reports.

Flames of War Early War Soviet Purge part 1
A group of the basement of Heaped Miniature regular headed back down to Parker banner Kent and Wayne for another day of Flames of War with the Charlotte Flames of War group. After the first games were arranged, it was Patrick and his early war Soviets against my early war Soviets in a purge to remove the traitors.
We were able to set up on the Soviet steppe board with a town in the middle.
We were running 1000 point armies and I came up with a new army plan. The biggest change is adding in a Polikarpov I-153 biplane for some air support. I dropped one Strelkovy company to ten stands and dropped four hmg stands from the hmg company. With the points saved I added the I-153 and a group of four 45mm at guns.
Patrick didn't have a list ready for Early War so after a quick read over the Early War Strelkovy list he fielded two full strength Strelkovy companies, four 45mm at guns and five T-70 light tanks to stand in for T-26s.
The scenario had reserves so I deployed my 45mm guns beside the objective and put the Strelkovy company in a column to double time toward the enemy.
Patrick spread out his Strelkovy around one objective and deployed his 45mm guns back to get a better field of fire.
The I-153 made its first appearance on the table and shoot up some Strelkovy infantry.
My Strelkovy, goaded on by the Command Commissar, double time down the road to get to grips with the enemy.
The Strelkovy continue to double time through the town finally getting sight of the enemy.
Patrick's light tanks arrive from reserve and fire on my strelkovy killing several bases.
My Strelkovy move up and assault into Patrick's.
The Strelkovy carry the day and move onto the objective.
Come back tomorrow for the rest of the battle.

Charlotte Flames of War 1000 point Early War Battles
A group of the Basement of Heaped Miniatures Regulars carpooled down to Parker Banner Kent and Wayne for some Early War games with the Charlotte Flames of War group. We played 1000 point armies and several of the guys managed multiple games.I played a Soviet Strelkovt Batalon, Chuckaroobob played French Fusiliers, Jody played French Infantry, Darkrovar played German Armor, Tom played British armor, Gary played British armor, Brian played German light armor and Keith played French Armor.
The Charlotte guys turned out some excellent terrain including this Eastern Orthodox Church on the Russian steppe table.
The action heats up, The French armor being smoked by the German armor.
German armor making the dash across the airfield.
French Fusiliers moving to stop the German Light armor breakthrough.
French anti-tank guns on the flank of the German light tank company.
The Soviet Strelkovy Batalon charges the first wave into the French guns.
The Soviet 1931 B-4 203mm howitzers, standing in for some 122mm howitzers reposition to get a line of sight shot at the French Infantry.
German armor victorious, French armor company destroyed.
French fusiliers still holding the German light tank company from breaking through.
The Soviet high tide, The Strelkovy Platoon fails to assault the French light tanks.
German Stuka strafes the French fusiliers and score two casualties.
The French light tanks move to gun down the Soviet heavy machine gun company.
The German armor takes the field again, this time against a British Armor company.
The German light armor Breaking through the French Fusiliers.
The Stuka returns to add insult to injury on the French fusiliers anti-tank guns.
The first Soviet Strelkovy company is removed from play and I fail the second wave roll so they are gone for good.
The French Light tanks have made short work of the Heavy machine gun company and fire on the 1931 B-4 203mm howitzers killing one. I then have to make the company morale roll and I leave the field.
We ended up with nine players for the day and I think everybody gained a new respect for the differences of the Early War Flames of War. Personally, it was my first Early War game with the Soviets and I have come back with a new plan. I have reorganized the Strelkovy and have picked up a few new units to make a much better army.

Early War armies for Charlotte Flames of War
A group of The Basement of Heaped Miniatures regulars carpooled down to Parker, Banner, Kent and Wayne to play some 1000 point Early War Flames of war games. We ended up with eight players eventually but I only took pictures of six armies.
First is my Soviet Early War Strelkovy Batalon from the Poland Invaded pdf from Battlefront. I went with two Strelkovy comapnies. a machine gun company and an artillery company.
The guns I used were actually Soviet 1931 B-4 203mm howitzers from Chuckaroobob's collection. I used them as "counts as" 122mm howitzers.
Chuckaroobob's French Fusilier company. Command with 2 25mm guns, three fusilier platoons, a heavy machine gun platoon, a two 47mm at gun section and 3 Hotchkiss H 39 tanks
Keith's loaner french armor company with nine Souma S35s.
Darkrovar's German armor. I believe he had to proxy some of his long barrel MK IIIs for the early war short barreled ones.
Brian's German Armor company. With a command Panzer I, four Sdkfs 231s, a stuka and a mess of Panzer I's and II's.
Last Jody's French Infantry. A command section, two at guns, a mortar section, an AA section with three 25mm AA guns, three French light tanks and three infantry platoons.
The two not pictured were newcomer Tom with a British Armor Company and Gary also with a British Armor company.
Battle reports to follow soon.
