15mm Modern Soviets/Russians

Hi Kids,  I've joined a few more bogger sites dealing with 15mm Moderns and it got me thinking about my own stuff.  I was painting this stuff fast and furious a couple years ago when a few of us were doing Modern Flames of War.  Then we figured out ModFoW was utter worthless and stopped playing it.  I have a few other rule sets I'm considering, one of which is Disposable Heroes (possibly the best rules of all time!).  I might have to get off my butt and paint up the opposition.  I own some US, Brits and French too, but they are all still naked steel. Well, I forgot to get pictures of my QC Israeli M-50 and M-51's, they're painted (but not well).  M-51's are just too awesome not to own some. There are a fistful of manufacturers here, Quality Castings (now from 19th Century Miniatures), QRF, and Old Glory.
Those guys on the left are QRF, the ones on the right are Quality Castings or Old Glory 15's, I can't remember which. The second row has (left to right) mortars, recoilless rifles, and 20 ATGM's.  Yeah, I got a surplus of ATGM's because they are the only thing in ModFoW that can hurt M1 Abrams.  You can just melt down all your Soviet MBT's they are completely without value in ModFoW.  Unless your opponent is some 4th rate 3rd world banana republic with 1945 hand-me-down equipment.
Looks like some Quality Castings BDRM missile vehicles, backed up by QC BMP-2's. Just out of shot to the right are some Old Glory MT-LB's.
Old Glory's T-72's.  Don't really like these tanks, the turrets do not seem in scale with the hulls. They are also slightly larger than my other tanks.
Quality Castings' T-80's with reactive armor.  The best thing you can get in ModFoW.  Too bad they are fantastically expensive in points while still sucking on ice.  Come to think of it,  the T-90 might be a little better, but I don't own any.  I think there is one on the Eureka's 100 Club.
QC ZSU-23-4's backed up by QC JS-3's.  Off to the right are two QRF T-10M's.  Brown spotted QC T-54A's in the back.  You know, I coulda sworn I had another handful of T-54's, but I can't find em.  Bummer.  The Basement strikes again!
QC BTR-60PB's.  I know they suck compared to the BMP's, but by golly they just look too cool!  You gotta have some! Brown spotted QC T-72's in back.  To the right is the sole QC T-62.  I personally think the T-62 is the un-sexiest tank ever. I bought one just for the hell of it.
Additional T-72's with a MiG-21 I bought at an HMGS flea market.  Painted and ready to go by whomever.  Thanks man!  On the other side of the plane are more T-80's.
Ah yes, my Last Resort.  After playing a few games against my buddy's US forces (and getting my butt kicked 80 yards against the wind), I dug out and painted up this QRF Frog-7 missile truck.  Basically the same thing as Sadam's Scud Launchers.  I figured the next time we play I'd just launch a tac nuke into the US ranks on turn one.  We haven't played since then, go figure.  Coincidence, maybe.  Yes, that must be it.
Now if only I could find the motivation to paint the rest. I still have some QRF T-64's, SPA's, some infantry.  And all the US/Brits/French.  Can you help motivate the Chuckster? A new ruleset would go a long way.....

Now I know I've been really cryptic about ModFoW.  It's actually a real blessing that it has apparently vanished from the internet.  I'm looking for an alternative. So what does everyone else use?  Challenger? World at War? Scud Hunters? Disposable Heroes? Hind Commander? WRG 1950+? Arc of Fire?  I have my doubts about Cold War Commander. The activation system seems rather insane. But send me some hints.  This is too much lead to be gathering dust!

I think the missile has been an effective deterrent. Too bad.

  3. A profusion of tanks is the way the Chuckster rolls.

  4. I tried many 15mm Rulesets .... In the end I made my own, it's pretty decent actually with alot of feedback from the community. Check it out it's a free Download on my Blog, and then 2 List packs.

Nice Soviets, I really like the QRF vehicles, their Infantry less so, but after much experimentation with Force on Force and various others we build a ruleset to feel like FOW and capture the feel of large scale Mechanised Warfare in Germany.
