Kilgore, has passed away<br />
<br />
On Thursday Scott lost his fight against cancer. He was 45 years old and leaves behind his wife Ashley and 12 year old son Nicholas. Scott was a good natured gamer whose broad interests ranged from Rogue Trader 40K, modern Africa, the Banana Wars and the World Wars among others. His posts here demonstrate that he was a talented modeler and a superb painter. He was one of my best friends and will be greatly missed.<br />
<br />
There will be a gathering at United Friendship Church of Christ, 307 Turner Road, Lexington NC at 2:00pm Sunday Aug 23rd.<br />

A few more shots of the Bolt Action tourney. Although Bolt Action is easily one of those "best forgotten" rulesets, it continues to attract those gamers who haven't tried Disposable Heroes. You can lead a horse to water...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Now THAT'S a BIG GUN. I remember seeing these things on TMP or Lead Adventure. Didn't know they have reached production. I might wait for the 203mm one to come out.<br />

And once again had a bucket o fun! There were about 500 games put on at Fredericksburg, VA, so I'd like to recommend that everyone make the trip next year. It'll still be there in 2016, but after that who knows? I personally think the backlash from the Long Island etc gamers will move it to someplace like Iceland just to spite us lads from south of the Mason-Dixon line, but I might be wrong....<br />
<br />
In the meantime, here are some pictures I took of all the action.<br />
<br />

My Thursday game was Check Your Six Jet Age, as the F-8 Gunfighters jumped our NV MiG-21's. Three MiG's were shot down and only one F-8, but since I'm the one MiG pilot who shot down an enemy plane and survived too, I declared it an intellectual victory!<br />

Books. And books about tanks.Hi Kids, I like tanks. Not sure why. I also like airplanes, locomotives, cars, etc. And books. I really like books far too much to be healthy. If I ever move there are going to be double hernias all around! I've never been in the army and never had to keep a tank operational. I might not be as appreciative if I had. I have driven some armoured vehicles while on vaca in the UK, including the Chieftain. For a couple years I was saving up for an armoured car or a Chieftain (IIRC US$17,000!!!) but the government made it illegal to import them. I think that law might have been changed again, but buying a motorcycle has taught me the zen of not owning everything I see.<br />
<br />
A lot of these are coffee table books with huge pictures, but you gotta start somewhere. I've had the bug bad enough that I've been to the War and Peace Show (Beltring) a couple times. I even helped a guy work on his ex-Yugoslav M36 while there. (I handed him a tool he asked for, my 20 seconds of hands on experience.) I've also been to Aberdeen, Bovington, Duxford, The Littlefield Collection, the Patton Museum, and some other museums out in California. Still need to make it to Russia!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is the first book I ever had about tanks. In fact, my favorite tank has always been the Chieftain, possibly because there's a two page spread of one with the turret rotated sideways and the gun sticking out a country mile. Just looks awesome! Now that I think about it, a lot of these books have Chieftains on the cover. Maybe because they were printed in the UK or the commonwealth.<br />

Picked up this one back in the mid-1990's. It's the only one I have that describes all the weird one-off and pre-production weirdness (US T-6, T-20, VK3002MAN, etc etc) we now see on World of Tanks the computer game.<br />

K&J Magnetics to the rescue!Hi Kids, Here's one of the tanks I've been pretending to work on lately. I think I primered it about 2 years ago. Yeah, I must be in a rush! It's a 1:60 West Wind Panzer 4 which can be made as a F1, F2, or early G variant. Naturally, the Chuckster can't be bothered to actually make a firm decision. We play a lot of early war around here, so the stub barrel would be good. But there's also that June 6th D-Day Gameapalooza coming up, (Disposable Heroes of course!) and those longer guns would no doubt come in handy when you're trying to stem the beachheads. What to do, what to do.....???<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KOfb54mBB_k/VVPeMK3WHyI/AAAAAAAAFVQ/lVchQIG4WBQ/s1600/pz4%2B001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KOfb54mBB_k/VVPeMK3WHyI/AAAAAAAAFVQ/lVchQIG4WBQ/s320/pz4%2B001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Here we have a work-in-progress shot of the partially painted tank with the three different guns from which to choose. All metal all the time! And if you're an Old Glory Army member this is ~US$20!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xOV6O6S1czE/VVPeMYhdX4I/AAAAAAAAFVY/06HzEqKZiCs/s1600/pz4%2B002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xOV6O6S1czE/VVPeMYhdX4I/AAAAAAAAFVY/06HzEqKZiCs/s320/pz4%2B002.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Order some magnets! That's what you do! Partially submerged in a bath of glue is a K&J magnet towards the back of the hollow turret. I drilled out the backs of the guns and glued in some piano wire, or any other wire that works with magnets. At first I was afraid that the force would not be strong enough and the barrels would droop, but no fear there. Even the long barrel has no problem.<br />

Meanwhile, the Basement has revealed some more items from a bygone era, some Easter Island head statues (called "Moi" I believe)! I've been looking for these things for quite awhile, and am thrilled the terrain for KneeCap Island is at least getting closer to the workbench. Armorcast makes some great stuff! I'm thinking about getting more of their craters, too.</div>

<br />
Yep, just to show everyone it's not all ultra-serious hardcore monster games like "Le Bataille de Whatever," "Highway to the Reich," or double blind "Flattop," those Monday night lads sometimes let their hair down and dig up the weirdest stuff imaginable. This should really come as no surprise from the lads who brought you "A Fistful of Turkeys" and "Globbo" con games! (Converted to miniatures of course!) Last week it was the ole "Pax Limpopo" game "Pig Tickler" from Eureka Miniatures. Its a game of Lancers riding unicycles chasing a steam powered pig all over the map. Of course, the pig can fight back, and there's an ump and a stoker to get in the way and interfere as much as the other players can make them!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z67_CIgKVgU/VULo2auawVI/AAAAAAAAFUw/PRXRjMzua_0/s1600/0413151952.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z67_CIgKVgU/VULo2auawVI/AAAAAAAAFUw/PRXRjMzua_0/s1600/0413151952.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
Your humble correspondent was the manager of one team, and managed to crush the competition by a 10 point spread! I owe it all to my time riding a Yamaha V-Max motorcycle! My opponent failing to activate 3 turns in a row might have had a very slight effect on the game too. You never know...<br />
<br />
All this stuff came in a numbered box signed by Nic and Dave. I'm telling ya, those lads at Eureka can come up with some awe-inspiring stuff when they have a mind to do so. I might just have to paint my all my Eureka dinosaurs! And I still have my "Native Women With Chicken on Head" miniatures too, if the Basement ever decides to reveal their whereabouts.Chuckaroobobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08419375914148489326noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9210978723752761533.post-60212466111980943882015-04-27T08:02:00.001-04:002015-04-27T08:02:11.238-04:00Game Theory Store in Raleigh with the TSS LadsHi Kids, Last Saturday was one of the Triangle Simulation Society's game days, this time the hosting store was Game Theory on Highway 70, aka Glenwood Avenue. Only about 8 kids showed up for a couple games of Low Level Hell and Dwarves vs. Goblins.<br />
<br />
The first game was run by the World Famous Bruce, using 20mm figs and helicopters and loads of jungle terrain for Vietnam. Each player got a copter of assorted varieties: Hueys, Gunships, and Cobras. I got a troop carrier and turned out to be the commanding officer! So naturally I had to speak like John Wayne/ Robert Duvall and use the callsigns "Bulldog" and "Big Duke 6."<br />
<br />

Here I am going in fast and hard, giving Charlie the gun! All the VC figs are controlled by the guy running the game. Regardless of the amount and type of dice I rolled, the most I could accomplish was scaring the trees. Partially with wild shots, mostly with wild flying!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

World Famous Ollie was flying a Cobra, and the kid was hot! Just about everytime he touched the dice he was wiping out entire enemy squads! Most of the time he didn't even get to resolve the rocket fire, his grenade launcher and MG's took the enemy out before the rockets hit!<br />

The world famous Dave sets out his custom built mountain mine terrain. The Goblins controlled the mine, the Dwarves were raiding it! On the left of the picture you can see the underground rooms, set out to correspond to the entrances in the mountain. Home rules, very skirmishy, very quick!<br />

Hi Kids, Last Saturday was the monthly historical gameday for the Catawba Gamers group, this time Brian brought out his 1:72 Napoleonics for some 200 year old replays! The Frogs are on the left, all Imperial Guard (!), the good guys (Russians) were on the right. From that unbiased remark I'm sure you all know which side I was on! To win the Frogs had to capture the hill under the rules, while the Pre-Commies had to capture the bridge near the table edge. Rules: Black Powder.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aeJzz0lpS9k/VRbACYHPQ7I/AAAAAAAAFQY/PaXbO1lM7Fg/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aeJzz0lpS9k/VRbACYHPQ7I/AAAAAAAAFQY/PaXbO1lM7Fg/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B002.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
A close up of the Frog starting positions. The Young Guard in the foreground was rated as inexperienced.<br />

The Good Guys! My Russians are on the left, Patrick's are on the right.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

As soon as the dice allow, the Prussians enter from the south edge. Gary rolled on at the first opportunity, making a huge difference in the game! "Old Forwards" lived up to the name!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VZaFCW-CVb0/VRbADCc4LoI/AAAAAAAAFQo/6aJ0TCcMlq4/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VZaFCW-CVb0/VRbADCc4LoI/AAAAAAAAFQo/6aJ0TCcMlq4/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B005.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
The Russians advance towards the town while the Frog Cavalry climbs the hill, after fighting off two units of Russian Dragoons.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

In a brief interlude, I sneak over to the other tables and spot an Early War FOW game, using those massive T-35's!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U2CW8r8LItU/VRbADxGfgVI/AAAAAAAAFQ8/jV16LB8_XC4/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U2CW8r8LItU/VRbADxGfgVI/AAAAAAAAFQ8/jV16LB8_XC4/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B007.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
And massive numbers of T-26's too! The best of both worlds! There was also a game of "Song of Drums and Shakos" going on, and a few 40k'ers! And about 30 Magic gamers. WoooooHoooooo!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KLvWEjc0n7A/VRbAEE1W1EI/AAAAAAAAFRA/E4bNjbO_9Bw/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KLvWEjc0n7A/VRbAEE1W1EI/AAAAAAAAFRA/E4bNjbO_9Bw/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B008.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
Meanwhile, the action is getting tense! The Frogs have taken the hill, and the Russian main force has been encircled from that flank! It's temporary, as the Russians detach some units and shoot the Frog cav down. In the distance the Prussian threat draws near!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-44q8Sa8-wuE/VRbAEoICESI/AAAAAAAAFRM/SED2jUDZveI/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-44q8Sa8-wuE/VRbAEoICESI/AAAAAAAAFRM/SED2jUDZveI/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B009.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
After a double blunder command roll, two Russian units fall back a full move! the Frog Old Guard closes in! Skirmishers out!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_k7UtaZn8lg/VRbAEwYek5I/AAAAAAAAFRQ/dB-2zKcCBko/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_k7UtaZn8lg/VRbAEwYek5I/AAAAAAAAFRQ/dB-2zKcCBko/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B010.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
The Prussians swing up from the south at full speed!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-moEQhmcpNPI/VRbAFDR-9RI/AAAAAAAAFRc/zC4koaeq2rw/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-moEQhmcpNPI/VRbAFDR-9RI/AAAAAAAAFRc/zC4koaeq2rw/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B011.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
Prussian Cav take the bridge! The Old Guard arty takes an interest, but its too little too late! The Russian side wins big!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fJaFTD2Ycus/VRbAFnb3MJI/AAAAAAAAFRY/3Ig7Eu4OSVE/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fJaFTD2Ycus/VRbAFnb3MJI/AAAAAAAAFRY/3Ig7Eu4OSVE/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B012.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
The after dinner game was the best rules ever written, God's Chosen Ruleset: "Disposable Heroes" in 15mm! Yes, we all know its not the One True Scale, but ya can't have everything! A german delaying action in the hedgerows of Normandy. About 4 squads of US infantry try to push through 2 squads of Huns. Naturally, the Huns had some machine guns and suitcases full of ammo!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-A-hKMzCC12k/VRbAFwSEfKI/AAAAAAAAFRk/B_0qPlzFR3s/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-A-hKMzCC12k/VRbAFwSEfKI/AAAAAAAAFRk/B_0qPlzFR3s/s1600/Catawba%2BGamers%2BMarch%2B013.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
The US players all swarm over the wide open spaces on one side of the map, trying to stay in cover but moving forward as fast as their little 15mm legs can carry them! Although both sides lost about the same (12 guys) the US players managed to carry the day, the Huns are just too thin and the board too large for them to swing other defenders to the decisive point!<br />
<br />
A great day was had by all! The Catawba Gamers meet every third Saturday of the month at the "Parker, Banner, Kent & Wayne" store in Cornelius NC, and post on their yahoogroup what games will be set up. More games, more gamers, more better! So why aren't the rest of you kids turning up?Chuckaroobobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08419375914148489326noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9210978723752761533.post-3072381757951762152015-03-26T21:33:00.002-04:002015-03-26T21:33:53.746-04:00South Dakota Grudge Match! Flames of War CLT vs. RDU!Hi Kids, Ok, ok, I know two Flames of War groups based in North Carolina (Charlotte and Raleigh) have absolutely nothing to due with South Dakota, but ever since I first heard that term (South Dakota Grudge Match) I just can't resist using it whenever I get a chance! Anyway, on with the story: The CLT lads and the RDU kids decided it would be fun to set up a meet on Neutral Ground to have some fun and meet some new opponents. High Point NC is roughly halfway between and had a store (Gaming Underground, or Underground Games, I can never remember) with lots of table space, and so it was on!<br />
RDU had 8 guys turn up, CLT had 4 until two of us Winston-Salem gaming pariahs showed up to join the CLT side. The plan was to have 1:1 games in the morning and after lunch play a big honkin' game of Total War with CLT vs. RDU. Each player made a late war 1750 pt. army for the single games and modified it to 1000 pt. for the Total War game. Since RDU had a two player advantage each CLT player got extra points to make up the difference; 8000 pt. per side. Here are some shots of the 1:1 games. A lot of them are from my game and the games near me. I didn't have time to wonder around and take pictures of everything since I was busy getting stomped!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-D7VkgnHf7tc/VRSqapYw-pI/AAAAAAAAFLY/2Spd828U_Kc/s1600/RDU%2Bvs%2BCLT%2BFOW%2B016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-D7VkgnHf7tc/VRSqapYw-pI/AAAAAAAAFLY/2Spd828U_Kc/s1600/RDU%2Bvs%2BCLT%2BFOW%2B016.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
Here is a shot of my beginning forces, five ISU-122's and two 100mm ATG's (Proxy!). Everything else was a scattered delayed reserve. Bummer, I know. Turn one, here comes the Luftwaffe! Yeah, that was a bummer too! I don't even remember the last time I played late war, and I made the fatal error of loading up with Tiger killers! Unfortunately Rate of Fire 1 just doesn't put enough hate mail down range to crush normal armies. I brought a plastic spoon to a gunfight! ISU-122's are Old Glory and the 203mm tracked guns are also available from them, but from a different manufacturer.<br />

The Finns charge across the table! If you want to win, employ a Finn! Two T-34's pop their tops with 122mm hits!<br />

It's Panthers-a-go-go! on the table next door! Special rules about flank shots and bad luck with the dice lead to the Panthers destroying about 75% of the Russian army they faced.<br />

My lads are set up! Once again they would basically do nothing the entire game, blasting massive shells everywhere except towards the enemy! Then again, the enemy wasn't foolish enough to come out of hiding anywhere near them...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

A tiny bit of the grand battery in the center of the RDU position. I thought this kind of set up went out of style after the First World War, but by golly it was ugly being on the receiving end of all those muzzles! It's a wonder the table didn't collapse!<br />

But one of the CLT (W-S auxillary) guys had a mean infantry list! Soviet Combat Sappers! Trashing tanks, ATG's, infantry, cavalry; they spank everybody one at a time or all at once! None Shall Pass!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And with that it was all over. In all the excitement some of us didn't get a third turn, but the CLT side was getting crushed so comprehensively I really don't think it would have made any difference if we had. The objectives were still pretty close, RDU being ahead by one, but the CLT armies were so badly hammered we packed everything up and called it a day!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Maybe I should've gone with the T34/85 list...</div>

No, not the Willie Nelson movie. Although its worth seeing.Hi Kids, Around here we've been talking about Barbarosa for the past couple years. I'm intending to build some forces for 25mm Disposable Heroes games, and some 15mm stuff for Flames of War too. If it's good enough for one scale, its good enough for two! I decided to go whole hog and get some big honkin' units for the smaller scale, especially when I discovered The Warstore carries Zvezda kits! These BT-5's were only about $3.60 each! Only about 5 parts so they go together in a freakin' snap! I didn't bother checking the unit sizes in FOW Barbarosa, so instead of maxing out at 16 tanks I only ordered 15. Oh well. Guess I'll be ordering at least two more, one to be #16 and another to be the HQ tank.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EawH70XweeA/VQj1Ag62ZMI/AAAAAAAAFK4/iqoANrRLMyY/s1600/RDU%2Bvs%2BCLT%2BFOW%2B053.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EawH70XweeA/VQj1Ag62ZMI/AAAAAAAAFK4/iqoANrRLMyY/s1600/RDU%2Bvs%2BCLT%2BFOW%2B053.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
Here we have a shot of the first batch of BT-5's! Although Commie tanks tend to be green, I'm a sucker for camo. And in this scale it's a snap! I'm undecided whether I should paint the tanks a steel or grey color. Usually I do but that's a lot of work.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5PbIHhv_zEM/VQj1A8cAKkI/AAAAAAAAFK8/_aLFwdrJK4U/s1600/RDU%2Bvs%2BCLT%2BFOW%2B054.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5PbIHhv_zEM/VQj1A8cAKkI/AAAAAAAAFK8/_aLFwdrJK4U/s1600/RDU%2Bvs%2BCLT%2BFOW%2B054.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
With this many tanks in one unit I decided to at least make an attempt to avoid confusion and number the damn things. I ordered some Soviet AFV numbers from I-94 Enterprizes. For $3 you can get two sheets loaded with numbers. I think they look pretty good! Highly recommended! I only had one misbehave, flip over and become unusable. In the future, if I ever build another BT-5 unit, (unlikely since they are about 1000 points for this many) I will put the decal on the flat part of the turret side. And these kits have only been lurking in the Basement for about a month or two!<br />
<br />
So what does everybody think? Should I paint the tracks or leave them black?Chuckaroobobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08419375914148489326noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9210978723752761533.post-91206696897938014142015-03-06T09:00:00.000-05:002015-03-06T09:00:05.643-05:00Massive Awesome Game of World Of Tanks!Hi Kids, The Chuckster's been at it again! This time he went all medieval on his tier 3 opponents with the second best tank ever made, the T-127! If you've gotta be commie, be a T-127! It's a crab! It's a hoss! The horrifying thing to know is even with this SPECTACULAR score his team still managed to loose the game! I mean Damn! What's a tanker gotta do to pull out a win?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9DDGLYQHNcI/VPPKSVAA2vI/AAAAAAAAFKM/y-JHZoOZydE/s1600/Feb2015%2B001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9DDGLYQHNcI/VPPKSVAA2vI/AAAAAAAAFKM/y-JHZoOZydE/s1600/Feb2015%2B001.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
Just lookit all those medals! Eight in one game! Seven kills! What was the rest of my team doing? Eye-yi-yi.....<br />
<br />
<strong><em><u>I am a bad man!</u></em></strong><br />
<br />
And it's all the more surprising cause I really suck at this game!Chuckaroobobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08419375914148489326noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9210978723752761533.post-25466750554917597172015-03-03T10:00:00.000-05:002015-03-03T20:48:04.445-05:00Oh yeah, the Chuckster's a typical wargamer, all right!Hi Kids, How can you tell the Chuckster's a hardcore gaming fool? Its easy, and here's the proof. You know how people find stuff in the pockets of their winter coats when they wear them after hanging in the closet all year? Most people find lint, spare change, maybe a $10 bill...<br />
What's the Chuckster find in the coat he hasn't worn in 5 or 10 years? You guessed it, Miniatures!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JRz5XConSxU/VPPGd0FhyUI/AAAAAAAAFKA/F-DGKaD2xdM/s1600/Feb2015%2B004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JRz5XConSxU/VPPGd0FhyUI/AAAAAAAAFKA/F-DGKaD2xdM/s1600/Feb2015%2B004.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
The Basement of Heaped Miniatures is getting sneakier by freakin' minute! Hell, I don't even remember ever buying these guys, much less ever intending to build a Slayer Dwarf army for W$Fantasy. In fact, of all the armies dwarves are probably the least likely I would ever build. I haven't even played W$Fantasy in 5 years. It's a long story, but back in 3rd ed for about 10 years solid I lost to dwarves all the time. I could go into further detail (such as my opponent taking 80 troops with magic seeking arrows ("just to see what would happen" sez he), 5-10 siege machines (aka cannon, bolt throwers, catapults, organ guns etc), or how he demanded that all armies be separated by 36" instead of the legally intended 24," ("because it makes more sense for the troops to have room to deploy" sez he), or even how we had to insert "initiative rolls" to see which army went first each turn (guess who was stuck in no-man's land for an extra turn?).<br />
<br />
But maybe that would just be crying over spilt milk....<br />
<br />
How did we get on this topic anyway? Oh, that's right! I found these slayer dwarf command figs in my coat pocket! Wooooo Hooooooo!!!Chuckaroobobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08419375914148489326noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9210978723752761533.post-52654432933822009372015-03-01T21:05:00.000-05:002015-03-01T21:05:27.568-05:00Snow in North Carolina!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LbNp_pTVR0Y/VPPEZKCZt7I/AAAAAAAAFJ0/jlxKO1RU02g/s1600/downsized_0226150950.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LbNp_pTVR0Y/VPPEZKCZt7I/AAAAAAAAFJ0/jlxKO1RU02g/s1600/downsized_0226150950.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Hi Kids, Yes! Once again we have snow in the ole hometown! This is the view at 9am as I head out to work. Why am I going to work on a day when all the normal people are hanging out at home? Because if a job's worth doing, its worth dying for! And Yes! I was the only one to show up. Although to be honest, it really wasn't that big a deal. Within a mile of the house the major roads were already 100% clear.<br />
<br />
Kind of a bummer, really.Chuckaroobobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08419375914148489326noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9210978723752761533.post-6783838691141586052015-02-22T20:26:00.001-05:002015-02-22T20:26:54.769-05:00Warmachine and Dust BunniesHi Kids, Super B (aka Bryan) and I decided to get some of the lead out last Sunday, and the perfect game for us (due to ease of play, ease of transportation, ease of terrain, and ease of dice) was WARMACHINE! Yes, they tell us we can't just type Warmachine. Its gotta be all capitals. And who am I to argue? I don't agree with Check Your Six! either. Why not just use Check Your Six without the exclamation point? Go figure. Anyway, turns out we had a free afternoon so I headed over to Wargames West (aka Super B's house) in Elkin NC for some weight lifting. With Khador, it can be a lotta weight!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7yvu8RGRLfU/VOp8NAk97yI/AAAAAAAAFJY/u3KWFAg6dD0/s1600/untitled2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7yvu8RGRLfU/VOp8NAk97yI/AAAAAAAAFJY/u3KWFAg6dD0/s1600/untitled2.png" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
I'm the first to admit these pictures suck, they were taken with a ten year old cellphone since I forgot to bring along my camera. Bummer, huh? So this is the army I choose; Scorcha (as we pronounce it), a Jugg, a Destroyer, a Demolisher, a Behemoth and a Kovnik. Had to use my gal Scorcha, that mini is the only reason I bought into this freakin' game at all! (When this game first came out the only way to get her around here was to buy an army starter of her and two jacks. I thought the Khador jacks looked silly, but after six months gave in and had to have Scorcha! Anyway, the jacks grew on me and I ended up buying about $1000 of PP stuff. Last thing I bought was a Khador Colossus for $100!) This was the baptism of fire for my Behemoth, it's been sitting in the basement for about 5 years, the last one or two painted. Yes, I know those are the wrong guns on the Behemoth. He came without them, and PP wanted about $18.00 shipping to replace them, so I just got some guns that were lying around and made do.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VjvUjfy05Jo/VOp8MSyOB9I/AAAAAAAAFJU/zXC3HaFSc7M/s1600/untitled.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VjvUjfy05Jo/VOp8MSyOB9I/AAAAAAAAFJU/zXC3HaFSc7M/s1600/untitled.png" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here we have a shot of the final moments of the game, when my opponent's warcaster got body slammed by the Demolisher and about 3 bombard shots. You can see the Demo's path of destruction through the unit of infantry. Huzzah!!! Remember there are only two rules in life; 1: Never get between a hippo and the river, and 2: Never get within 7.5 inches of a Khador jack!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xp1YelG8aYA/VOp8NXGv36I/AAAAAAAAFJc/q7sK7QA1J5A/s1600/untitled3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xp1YelG8aYA/VOp8NXGv36I/AAAAAAAAFJc/q7sK7QA1J5A/s1600/untitled3.png" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Here we have a similar shot of the end of the second game, where my opponent's warcaster got crushed by the Jugg. Cowabunga!!!<br />
<br />
Turns out Warmachine (yeah, I'm a rebel, no caps!) wasn't that easy to transport as three of my jacks were broken in transit, and not so easy to play due to some cards I lost. And as far as ease of dice, I doubt if Super B would agree on that score. (I already checked, PP wants $9.83 shipping to replace the $1.50 worth of missing cards! Sheesh! Wonder what their profit margin might be...) I'm gonna have to search the Basement of Heaped Minis for the damn things!Chuckaroobobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08419375914148489326noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9210978723752761533.post-84638251578570690182015-02-12T21:47:00.000-05:002015-02-12T21:47:55.701-05:00Cold Steel at Gamers Armory in Cary North CarolinaHi Kids, Last weekend was another game day in the RDU NC area. The RDU lads chose a Saturday at random intervals to get together and play a few games, this time the chosen locale was Gamer's Armory in Cary. About 12 of the lads showed up for the games, while there were about the same number of other guys playing other stuff like 40K, Warmachine, Battletech, Infinity, or Magic.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qdqjvlbNI2o/VN1bgGgshwI/AAAAAAAAFE8/Y66a4B2wIFQ/s1600/Cold%2BSteel%2B013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qdqjvlbNI2o/VN1bgGgshwI/AAAAAAAAFE8/Y66a4B2wIFQ/s1600/Cold%2BSteel%2B013.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
The Bitter End for the Illustrious. Massive wings of torpedo bombers send the 50 hit point carrier to a watery grave! The guys told me this 1/300 carrier had never been sunk in 4 previous games. All I can tell ya is they must not have had the same overwhelming mix of Axis bombers those other times, cause even though I was rolling hot with my 4 Seafires there were about 25 bombers lined up to blow that boat clean outta the water! The Illustrious went down so fast half the bombers didn't even have a target! Rats!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-drvJMvK1TnY/VN1bgSu3z_I/AAAAAAAAFFI/j1fmgaq947c/s1600/Cold%2BSteel%2B015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-drvJMvK1TnY/VN1bgSu3z_I/AAAAAAAAFFI/j1fmgaq947c/s1600/Cold%2BSteel%2B015.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
Some of the kids playing all sorts of fun stuff!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The other side of the room. They're setting up a Napoleonics game back there.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Gamer's Armory, a spiffy store in Cary NC. If you haven't been there yet, go and check it out! They even offer discounts! I got $10 as the "gamer who drove the farthest." (About 95 miles each way, in case you're wondering.)<br />
<br />

Of the 8 defending Seafires, my bud's 4 take on a squadron of Ju-87's. I think they shot down about 3 of them.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My lads close in for the kill at wavetop height! Critical hits-a-go-go as I smack 'em down with a fuel tank hit which blows up a plane and a cockpit hit on another! Too bad it couldn't last!</div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OVF5Rm17t88/VN1dqKqG89I/AAAAAAAAFF0/YUSaBo3li8w/s1600/Cold%2BSteel%2B014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OVF5Rm17t88/VN1dqKqG89I/AAAAAAAAFF0/YUSaBo3li8w/s1600/Cold%2BSteel%2B014.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
3rd, 4th, 5th groups of bad guys jockey for position to get in the killing blow! Sm79's, Ju-88's, oh dear! My four Seafires have already been crushed by the defensive firepower of the torpedo bombers and the 15 or so escorting fighters. And I did manage to shoot down about 4 or so attacking planes! Those Stuka's were too slow to make it to the party.<br />
<br />
Still a damn fun game though!<br />

After all that WW2 naval action, lets set the WayBack Machine for the 12th Century! Time for some Cogs! Nothing can maneuver like a Cog! No worries about tide, wind, currents, any of that crap! These boats are just too powerful to worry about that stuff! Here's my Bengal Tigers boat!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L9Rjp460oxY/VN1h0imY8TI/AAAAAAAAFG0/ZGXri4WpIV8/s1600/Cold%2BSteel%2B024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L9Rjp460oxY/VN1h0imY8TI/AAAAAAAAFG0/ZGXri4WpIV8/s1600/Cold%2BSteel%2B024.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
Jockeying for stern rakes? Why bother, we don't have any cannon! Just get closer and smack em with a sword!<br />

My poor Cog was the first to get boarded, and my crew promptly forgot how to swing a sword. Bummer! Although my team attempts to save me, its too late! Is that a storm on the horizon? Or just some gamer moving too fast to be seen? Maybe that's why his rolls were so hot...<br />

Hi Kids, And the Chuckster's painting again! Who would believe it? Here's a shot of my recently painted Russian T-28 (the tank, not the plane) from Company B in 1/56. I've never been a huge fan of KV-1 Green so I thought I'd dress this one up with a little camo. After building it I found out there was a version with one of the MG turrets upgraded to a 45mm AT gun! If I had know that I probably would have fitted the bigger gun, cause more firepower is usually a good thing. I'm kinda disappointed that the picture came out so lousy, I can't get the entire vehicle into focus? How pathetic is that? Gonna have to play with the depth of field selection again....<br />
<br />
Also in the month of January I painted up two Tau Stealth suits (the old metal ones) in my Mars camo pattern. Now they have joined up with the Tau forces hanging out on the shelves with all the other 40K and Fantasy stuff. One of these days I'm going to find a Sci-Fi ruleset and start using all that stuff again.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oK5U-1YgqjI/VM79PhgMoTI/AAAAAAAAFEs/3Sgt_TSoxSo/s1600/chieftain3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oK5U-1YgqjI/VM79PhgMoTI/AAAAAAAAFEs/3Sgt_TSoxSo/s1600/chieftain3.jpg" /></a></div>
I'm thinking of making a Chieftain Tank t shirt. I think this shot would look good on the back. What's everyone think? Gotta dig that 120mm rifled gun!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VsSZUF7oN-g/VM78ckxc9zI/AAAAAAAAFEU/VbBbQIvfLok/s1600/at-9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VsSZUF7oN-g/VM78ckxc9zI/AAAAAAAAFEU/VbBbQIvfLok/s1600/at-9.jpg" height="197" width="320" /></a></div>
And here's a picture of one of my favorite planes, the Curtiss AT-9 (or maybe its the AT-9A?) I just think it's a neat little plane. A trainer for high performance twins like the P-38 or B-26. Some pilots joked that it was so difficult to fly that the P-38 should've been a trainer for the AT-9!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And while we're on the subject of pictures, here's one of Sophia in the movie "Boy on a Dolphin." All I can tell you is until you've seen that movie you just haven't lived. Netflix is your friend.<br />

The other side of that coin is that I'm working 50-60 hours a week making the righteous green! I heard a rumor that there was a 40K Apocalypse game going on at the local GW Store and figured I'd go and check it out. Well whattaya know, there they were, about 10 guys playing a 18,000 point game. There were even some Forge World items out there. It's been about 5 years since I played any GW, so I have no idea what some of this stuff might be, but here is the proof gaming is not quite dead in W-S!<br />
<br />

Some enterprising individual set up a ladder just to take pictures! No, it wasn't me... The Imperial side is on the upper left, some elements are attacking across the bottom of the shot. All sorts of superbeasties are spread out in the ruins. The table was either 6x6 or 8x8.</div>

When I saw this thing I thought I'd buy one right away! Unfortunately the store was sold out of Thunderflash cannon. Bummer! And then they told me it was Finecast! Double bummer! And that's about it for this installment of the events of Winston-Salem. Not quite the Black Hole of Gaming that we thought!Chuckaroobobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08419375914148489326noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9210978723752761533.post-15424822967325533842015-01-12T09:30:00.000-05:002015-01-12T09:30:00.809-05:00Ready for primer, Flesh Tearers Scout Sniper squadThe 40k league has started but health issues have put my model building behind schedule. I had a good day and managed to get this Scout sniper squad cleaned up, reassembled and the bases flocked. I just need a warmer day to get them primed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GXH1c42IGDk/VKr4RNrfQSI/AAAAAAAAJJ4/rrgIkJF9Yd4/s1600/IMG_7412.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GXH1c42IGDk/VKr4RNrfQSI/AAAAAAAAJJ4/rrgIkJF9Yd4/s1600/IMG_7412.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I received the squad second hand and missing a couple parts. I ended up rebuilding the missile launcher and the kneeling sniper to match up their bits. The sergeant model was missing a hand and a telescope so I added a chain sword hand and an old style space marine telescope to the rifle. I plan to have two scout sniper squads in 1500 point army, now I just need to get this one painted.<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P-lVl_4xfXo/VKr3tm2jHAI/AAAAAAAAJJo/TFqaMeHkEss/s1600/IMG_7410.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P-lVl_4xfXo/VKr3tm2jHAI/AAAAAAAAJJo/TFqaMeHkEss/s1600/IMG_7410.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I used the newer scout biker bits to add Astartes Grenade launchers to three bikes in each squad. The grenade launcher bits went onto the old style bikes surprisingly well. I originally planned to put them on the old style 40mm cavalry bases but I scrounged enough new longer bases for both squads.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-poH2BN4nzYk/VKr3tnPutwI/AAAAAAAAJJs/G6qI8p7yyHc/s1600/IMG_7411.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-poH2BN4nzYk/VKr3tnPutwI/AAAAAAAAJJs/G6qI8p7yyHc/s1600/IMG_7411.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Scout bikers assembled. My current plan is to equip both squads the same, with a vet sergeant with a Combi-grav gun, three Astartes Grenade launchers and cluster mines. The mines will let me booby trap a couple terrain pieces and then send the scout bikers to harass the enemy back field.<br />
<br />

I have a bunch of the old style metal scout bikers and have picked up some bits to round out the squads.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o0XBewyCrDk/VKr2_469w7I/AAAAAAAAJI0/IJcoA3e_BPI/s1600/IMG_7403.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o0XBewyCrDk/VKr2_469w7I/AAAAAAAAJI0/IJcoA3e_BPI/s1600/IMG_7403.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The first model finished a, A Scout Biker veteran Sergeant. I plan to have a vet sgt leading each squad and armed with a combi-grav gun. I used the drum magazine bolter bit from the original squad. it has a big targeter that once painted will mark it out as the combi weapon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HGskAzRuwmE/VKr2_7TACBI/AAAAAAAAJI4/0Tr5X-oyckU/s1600/IMG_7404.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HGskAzRuwmE/VKr2_7TACBI/AAAAAAAAJI4/0Tr5X-oyckU/s1600/IMG_7404.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I bit purchased six sets of astartes grenade launchers to out fit both squads with the max amount. The grenade launcher cowlings took a little modification but fit surprisingly well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-b3iBaBRFupk/VKr2_kauQEI/AAAAAAAAJIw/AU72xFtlG88/s1600/IMG_7405.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-b3iBaBRFupk/VKr2_kauQEI/AAAAAAAAJIw/AU72xFtlG88/s1600/IMG_7405.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The assembly line of scout bikers waiting for arms. I had previously used many of the scout shotgun arm bits to build a Elysian drop troop veteran squad back in the day. One of the problems of raiding a kit for bits to finish another project. I started raiding the bits boxes to come up with some replacement arms.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-A0LGYSL78Bk/VKr3ArevnqI/AAAAAAAAJJc/ewtMfZbY4rI/s1600/IMG_7406.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-A0LGYSL78Bk/VKr3ArevnqI/AAAAAAAAJJc/ewtMfZbY4rI/s1600/IMG_7406.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After a short search I came up with some bolt pistol arms I had cut from the old Space crusade scouts.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vb7s3G_qF0I/VKr3A57UFbI/AAAAAAAAJJA/7Wt6CUdePdU/s1600/IMG_7407.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vb7s3G_qF0I/VKr3A57UFbI/AAAAAAAAJJA/7Wt6CUdePdU/s1600/IMG_7407.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I cut these off of the space crusade scout sergeants to make them into a missile launcher armed scouts years ago. Once again never throw away any bits.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8Vjo6fhJRoY/VKr3BAPtp7I/AAAAAAAAJJE/RhPH7n7YW0M/s1600/IMG_7408.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8Vjo6fhJRoY/VKr3BAPtp7I/AAAAAAAAJJE/RhPH7n7YW0M/s1600/IMG_7408.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After a bit of a pin and a little trim the hand looks like it was made for the kit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VkuyUwDe-pU/VKr3BzGDZ_I/AAAAAAAAJJI/0Jx7UbhqySU/s1600/IMG_7409.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VkuyUwDe-pU/VKr3BzGDZ_I/AAAAAAAAJJI/0Jx7UbhqySU/s1600/IMG_7409.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Two down and one more to go, then it is onto the rest of the bikes.<br />

Included in the lot was a Soul Grinder that had seen better days. It looks like a small dog had won the fight an gnawed the power fist arm off at the shoulder. I wish I would have taken a couple before shop but i already had the milliput on before I thought about the camera.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uW9pf2O1FAE/VJ7GX9wPERI/AAAAAAAAJGU/l_yvieYpwKo/s1600/IMG_7384.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uW9pf2O1FAE/VJ7GX9wPERI/AAAAAAAAJGU/l_yvieYpwKo/s1600/IMG_7384.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I used a big piece of Milliput to fill the void left in the shoulder. I then pinned a piece of 2.5mm styrene rod so I would have an attach point for the arm. once the arm id finished i will come back later and use green stuff the sculpt on the shoulder.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hgufs7XYYaI/VJ7GX4REhFI/AAAAAAAAJGY/ig6bBZDEisA/s1600/IMG_7385.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hgufs7XYYaI/VJ7GX4REhFI/AAAAAAAAJGY/ig6bBZDEisA/s1600/IMG_7385.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The power claw arm patched and filled with some milliput.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Wy4i6_G4F4Y/VJ7GXzW9qbI/AAAAAAAAJGo/hMGg3yv2Ako/s1600/IMG_7386.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Wy4i6_G4F4Y/VJ7GXzW9qbI/AAAAAAAAJGo/hMGg3yv2Ako/s1600/IMG_7386.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Dry fit of the shoulder.<br />

<br />
Longer shot, I think it will work<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yBXuPx4U8yM/VJ7GdNurEEI/AAAAAAAAJG0/C3zk-ekl79k/s1600/IMG_7388.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yBXuPx4U8yM/VJ7GdNurEEI/AAAAAAAAJG0/C3zk-ekl79k/s1600/IMG_7388.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The key is using a piece of 5/32nd styrene tube to make a locking ring to keep the arm in place while I sculpt the shoulder over the joint.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5NyUZq0Cge4/VJ7GdLU1ajI/AAAAAAAAJHA/DQwvyxhEKdg/s1600/IMG_7389.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5NyUZq0Cge4/VJ7GdLU1ajI/AAAAAAAAJHA/DQwvyxhEKdg/s1600/IMG_7389.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The first round of green stuff to add some mechanical detail back to the arm.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-g0KELw5-XXk/VJ7GdKkA1YI/AAAAAAAAJG4/zKcg_BJXKjE/s1600/IMG_7390.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-g0KELw5-XXk/VJ7GdKkA1YI/AAAAAAAAJG4/zKcg_BJXKjE/s1600/IMG_7390.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The flip side of the arm with more green stuff detail. I will not be able to hide all the damage but it is a warped Daemon Engine of Chaos, a little battle damage adds character.<br />

I plan to change that. The previous owner had started painting it as a Dark Angels scheme but that is no more. It will now be folded into the Flesh Tearers. It can help bring in my Jump troops and possibly Terminators On time and On target but it has to live to do that. The next 40k league is Forge world friendly so hopefully the other players will join in the Forge world fun.<br />

<br />
From Imperial armor 12, it costs the same as three Cyclone missile launchers from the new Blood angels codex and can be taken as an HQ by several Space marine chapters including the Blood Angels.<br />
It can bring in an Orbital Bombardment once per game, str 10 AP1 Large blast , Barrage<br />
It has a teleport beacon so Deep striking units within 12 inches do not scatter.<br />
It has a Command Vox Relay that allows you to add or subtract 1 from all reserve rolls.<br />

I had talked about getting one for awhile but haven't so Chuckaroo gifted me one for my birthday. I have wanted a T26 to back up my Warlord era Chinese army but it has many more uses in different war gaming eras. They were fielded during the Spanish Civil War, early war on the WWII Eastern front and by the Chinese against each other and then the Japanese.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nnc9xESBDQM/VJWby8ZTztI/AAAAAAAAJFM/1U2kKh1relw/s1600/IMG_7310.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nnc9xESBDQM/VJWby8ZTztI/AAAAAAAAJFM/1U2kKh1relw/s1600/IMG_7310.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Out of the box the Company B kit had very few flaws and little flash.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1KiyA4jdZSs/VJWbyw6fzNI/AAAAAAAAJFE/qvZh8l5nlBI/s1600/IMG_7311.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1KiyA4jdZSs/VJWbyw6fzNI/AAAAAAAAJFE/qvZh8l5nlBI/s1600/IMG_7311.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The second chance at magnetizing the turret. The first try I used too small of magnets but the second go round worked much better.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W80EWTjUu60/VJWby1SCB9I/AAAAAAAAJFI/NzFVugtOqy4/s1600/IMG_7312.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W80EWTjUu60/VJWby1SCB9I/AAAAAAAAJFI/NzFVugtOqy4/s1600/IMG_7312.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The most glaring problem was a bent resin gun tube. In the process of straightening the tube I broke it off. i had suspected this to happen so I replaced it with a piece of brass rod.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8jDINGuBvHw/VJWbzacLwzI/AAAAAAAAJFs/BLumrcmWY_8/s1600/IMG_7313.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8jDINGuBvHw/VJWbzacLwzI/AAAAAAAAJFs/BLumrcmWY_8/s1600/IMG_7313.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The only real detail missing was at he back of the tank on the exhaust. An air bubble had removed the end of the muffler.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KH2xshmYXC4/VJWbzlmrhUI/AAAAAAAAJFU/Cslyleum4JA/s1600/IMG_7314.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KH2xshmYXC4/VJWbzlmrhUI/AAAAAAAAJFU/Cslyleum4JA/s1600/IMG_7314.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I drilled it out a bit and then replaced it with some green stuff and a piece 1.6mm styrene rod. One it is painted nobody will be able to tell it is a repair.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0bqZK5e70sI/VJWbz2Gg0xI/AAAAAAAAJFY/m4mrrvYtGrI/s1600/IMG_7315.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0bqZK5e70sI/VJWbz2Gg0xI/AAAAAAAAJFY/m4mrrvYtGrI/s1600/IMG_7315.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The finished T26 ready for paint.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WCdpjJGsMVM/VJWb0EcHvwI/AAAAAAAAJFg/kPv35tELt0Y/s1600/IMG_7316.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WCdpjJGsMVM/VJWb0EcHvwI/AAAAAAAAJFg/kPv35tELt0Y/s1600/IMG_7316.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The base coated T26, next to a Bolt Action Soviet light machine gunner. I plan to add some more highlights but no unit ID marks to get the most playability out of the model across several different armies.<br />
<br />
The challenge has already been issued to dispute Chuckaroobo's M3 Stuart title as the king of the battlefield from an <a href="http://mlwodementia.blogspot.com/2011/01/chinese-defend-against-americans.html" target="_blank">earlier game against</a> my Chinese. That game all I had was a Japanese Ha -Go tank that couldn't penetrate the armor of the M3 Stuart that will be different next time.ColKillgorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16525442150477092825noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9210978723752761533.post-56350270898904845762014-12-17T21:30:00.000-05:002014-12-17T21:30:00.161-05:00Las cannon and Twin linked Plasma gun Razorback turret conversionI may be jumping the gun but I decided that I will probably want to field one or two of the fast Razorback tanks when I put the Fleshtearers back on the table. I acquired a couple Razorbacks a while back in a trade and one had a twin las cannon turret. The turret had been broken and glued back together so it didn't elevate. I popped off one las cannon and raided the styrene collection.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8xeQ6ADltnE/VI44jPYAsRI/AAAAAAAAJEU/Yyknr82zXHY/s1600/IMG_7302.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8xeQ6ADltnE/VI44jPYAsRI/AAAAAAAAJEU/Yyknr82zXHY/s1600/IMG_7302.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I trimmed down a piece of styrene sheet and glued it to the center pylon of the turret. I added the 1/4 inch piece of square styrene to be the center column of the twin linked plasmaguns. I trimmed down a regular plasma gun and drilled it for a pin in the back and in the bottom to add the greenstuff cable. I ran a wire out the back of the gun and used some greenstuff and a section of 1//8 inch styrene tube to be the connector arm. I drilled two holes in the square tube front for the pins to go in and two holes in the side for the cables to go in. I took a piece of 2.5mm styrene rod and drilled it out to use as the connector for the greenstuff cable.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B41ChN7pNMI/VI44jHXDfSI/AAAAAAAAJEY/-13ycRcw04k/s1600/IMG_7303.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B41ChN7pNMI/VI44jHXDfSI/AAAAAAAAJEY/-13ycRcw04k/s1600/IMG_7303.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The second plasma gun added on. I took a tip from another blogger and whenever i have left over green stuff I have started rolling it into thin cables to use for a project just like this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GE6M0DBo9gU/VI44m3QccbI/AAAAAAAAJEo/iL3NSc7UrHQ/s1600/IMG_7304.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GE6M0DBo9gU/VI44m3QccbI/AAAAAAAAJEo/iL3NSc7UrHQ/s1600/IMG_7304.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The turret mounted up.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_jT5sBqf34c/VI44m98uKEI/AAAAAAAAJEk/TrYYHBQjIzY/s1600/IMG_7305.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_jT5sBqf34c/VI44m98uKEI/AAAAAAAAJEk/TrYYHBQjIzY/s1600/IMG_7305.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Razorback with old style dozer blade added. It was about this time that I realized that the cover on the turret was on backwards. I had yet to glue it on because I wanted to paint the styrene parts, so it worked out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HN4TCPiV-6I/VI44rnakyJI/AAAAAAAAJE0/X3dCH18mtuQ/s1600/IMG_7306.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HN4TCPiV-6I/VI44rnakyJI/AAAAAAAAJE0/X3dCH18mtuQ/s1600/IMG_7306.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The second Razorback had a twin heavy bolter turret. I decided to leave it until I play a couple games. I did add an old style dozer blade and did a few touch ups on the paint to both of them. They don't really have a Fleshtearer paint scheme but they are good enough for the table. After I get a few games played and decide if the Razorback have a place in the Fleshtearers I will give them a more appropriate paint scheme.<br />

I think this is about the third this year. I'm telling ya, 2014 has been a really non-event as far as gaming is concerned. Here's hoping 2015 is a little more lively! We didn't know what we were going to do for this battle; FoW, Disposable Heroes, Naval, the possibilities were endless...<br />
Since we decided not to bother building armies with point values and spreadsheets the natural choice was The Sword and The Flame, and what could be easier than French Foreign Legion vs. Arabs?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vqEiR9w5Gx4/VI2fl374L-I/AAAAAAAAE-o/zs1wSw1ofqk/s1600/TSATF%2B004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vqEiR9w5Gx4/VI2fl374L-I/AAAAAAAAE-o/zs1wSw1ofqk/s1600/TSATF%2B004.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
Here we have the 25mm Old Glory & Falcon Arab forces deployed for battle. There are more of them out of the shot. Two units of riflemen, about eight for Melee, and two cavalry. We snuck in a machine gun at the last minute. Against all expectations I decided to play the Arabs.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VFDQYNSrnHk/VI2fnJuWOSI/AAAAAAAAE-0/FoKiIIxYW_I/s1600/TSATF%2B005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VFDQYNSrnHk/VI2fnJuWOSI/AAAAAAAAE-0/FoKiIIxYW_I/s1600/TSATF%2B005.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
The French look a little thinner, but have huge amounts of firepower, complete with two machine guns! The Frog players were crying for the other 5 crew serverd weapons too, but there's a limit to just how many bullets/shells we wanted coming our way. Most were Foundry and Falcon.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PsEDli2_W8Y/VI2fm9dOsLI/AAAAAAAAE-w/uDbiZ6oCxWM/s1600/TSATF%2B006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PsEDli2_W8Y/VI2fm9dOsLI/AAAAAAAAE-w/uDbiZ6oCxWM/s1600/TSATF%2B006.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
The French move up. Those dudes with the red hats were Zouves.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kN2BSp1axzU/VI2foTGZLSI/AAAAAAAAE_A/uxT9KvKGaVg/s1600/TSATF%2B007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kN2BSp1axzU/VI2foTGZLSI/AAAAAAAAE_A/uxT9KvKGaVg/s1600/TSATF%2B007.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
Headlong rush! The Arabs start moving in.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Iv42iVJiPag/VI2fpJpplkI/AAAAAAAAE_E/d-YA5DQAeZI/s1600/TSATF%2B008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Iv42iVJiPag/VI2fpJpplkI/AAAAAAAAE_E/d-YA5DQAeZI/s1600/TSATF%2B008.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
The French start blasting away!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wYe6R0NO4A0/VI2fp_WqlKI/AAAAAAAAE_Q/r4vDqtXBlg4/s1600/TSATF%2B009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wYe6R0NO4A0/VI2fp_WqlKI/AAAAAAAAE_Q/r4vDqtXBlg4/s1600/TSATF%2B009.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
At the end of every charge was a Frog infantry unit forming square! It would have been nice if the movement cards had some compassion, or the Frogs could have failed one of those activation roles, but (literally) no dice!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--mZ20M3qnsQ/VI2fqYC4SpI/AAAAAAAAE_U/OVjPn7nlK6o/s1600/TSATF%2B010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--mZ20M3qnsQ/VI2fqYC4SpI/AAAAAAAAE_U/OVjPn7nlK6o/s1600/TSATF%2B010.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
By the end of the game it was looking really bad for the Arabs; 90% dead or routed off the map, the Frogs lost a few guys but not more than 10%. Maybe next time we'll go back to hidden set up and movement for the native forces. I think the high point of the game was my Arab cavalry charging the French MG team from the rear and failing morale to close. Nice. That's the MG on top of the hill on the left of the picture.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
All crying aside, we had an astounding turnout; Steve, John, Patrick and Tom all showed up to play, and Bryan (aka "Super B") snuck in at the last minute too! Even W stopped by to use the bathroom.* He's a gamer, so it still counts!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
After the game everyone seemed to think we need to game more. Always a good thing, if we can just get our schedules figured out and make it happen!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
*Ok, I wrote that cause it's funny, in addition to true. In W's defense, he lives 100 miles away and was halfway someplace on a roadtrip.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
